Weekend Guide: The Originals, People’s Runway, Brooklyn Americana Music Festival

This is one of the busiest weeks of the year. New York Fashion Week is in full swing, there are of course somber 9/11 commemorations, and that’s on top of the standard litany of nightlife events happening all year long. You can check out the best of all of it in the latest edition of the Weekend Guide.

Thursday, September 10

Angéline NYFW ‘Pieces of Eight’ Runway Presentation and After Party @ Seven House Gallery
5 p.m.

Designer Evangeline “Angéline” Mackenzie is presenting her debut collection during NYFW. Catch her six new looks, and you can also cop pieces from her other brand, 161 Archive.

Audre Lorde: A Litany for Survival | Queer Voices Film Festival @ Nitehawk Cinema Prospect Park
7 p.m.

The 2026 Queer Voices NYC Film Festival kicks off with this newly restored 1995 documentary about the famed poet, writer, and activist. The screening will be followed by a conversation about the restoration process, as well as Lorde’s continued relevance. 

Artists United for Venezuela – NYC Edition @ The Chocolate Factory
8 p.m.

Live musicians, DJs, and visual artists, Venezuelan and otherwise, are joining forces to raise money to help people affected by this summer’s horrific earthquakes in Venezuela. Money will go to Yo Tengo Un Sueño and World Central Kitchen. The bill includes Eli Goldstein’s new project DJ E-Cology, Holmar, Mafer Bandola, MPeach and Uva ‘e Playa, Moon Boots, Nickodemus, Tambor y Caña, and VENEZONIX, and there’s also a live prelude stream from Caracas.

Friday, September 11

Opening Reception for Pioneer Works Fall 2026 Exhibitions @ Pioneer Works
7 p.m.

Get an early glimpse of three new exhibits. You can see Tuomas A. Laitinen’s Siphon (about octopuses!), LaJuné McMillian’s Child/ren of the Bloom (about phytoplankton!), and Finnegan Shannon’s—with Joselia Rebekah Hughes, Ariana Martinez, and Alex Dolores Salerno—There is no me without you (featuring a conveyor belt!)

Notes of Tribute: Viewing the 9/11 Memorial Lights @ The Green-Wood Cemetery
7 p.m.

This free public gathering on top of one of Green-Wood’s hills gives you a great view of the tribute lights. There will also be live music, “words of remembrance,” and time provided for quiet contemplation.

Moliére in the Park Presents: Don Juan @ LeFrak Center, Prospect Park
7 p.m.

This year’s offering from MitP is one of the playwright’s darkest and funniest pieces. In this production, directed by Lucie Tiberghien, three actors transform into more than 10 characters, with only Don Juan and companion Sganarelle as constants. The play runs through September 27.

Caspa @ SILO Brooklyn
10 p.m.

Dubstep veteran Caspa has been making us dance for decades. Recently, he put out a string of stellar singles that show he’s better than ever, all available on his Bandcamp. Dêtre and Stoop Noise open up.

Saturday, September 12

Brooklyn Americana Music Festival @ DUMBO Archway Plaza
2 p.m.

The festival begins on Thursday with an opening gala at the Jaolpy Theatre in Red Hook. But today is the big day: an all-day outdoor roots music gala. Performers include Sophie Coyote, Cesar Moreno & Maddie Cody, Diamond Spur Rodeo, Avery Friedman, Rose Paradise, Dida Pelled, and more. If that’s not enough, head to Superfine for the afterparty.

The 2026 People’s Runway @ Brooklyn Borough Hall
5 p.m.

If you want your fashion to be less exclusive and more civic-minded, this is the way to go. Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and Brooklyn Arts Ambassador Colm Dillane (of KidSuper) are teaming up to throw an event that will showcase some emerging talent from our borough. The designers are Kuai Li, Lamin Rey Jaiteh, Laurel Tiange Fang, Moses Aina, and Roderick Reyes.

Monaleo + Saucy Santana: NY Fashion Week Festival @ Duggal Greenhouse (Brooklyn Navy Yard)
5 p.m.

Monaleo and Mr. “Quiet on the Creek” himself will both be performing, following back-to-back runway shows. Then, because it’s a fashion event, the evening will end with a final runway show. The evening is put on by The Model Experience. Sadly, their other NYFW event, featuring Victoria Monét, is already sold out.

Juelz Santana Annual Early 2000s Party @ Tnr
10 p.m.

Get your oversized T-shirts ready! Juelz will be headlining this party celebrating all things early aughts. Throwback outfits are strongly encouraged. 

Sunday, September 13

33rd Annual Clubhouse Jamboree @ Music Pagoda in Prospect Park
12 p.m.

The longest-running free outdoor house music event in the city is back! Expect a lineup of top DJs, including DJ Spinna, and a special performance from Keith Thompson. If you want to help out by throwing the organizers some bucks (throwing a free event ain’t free, after all), go here.

Anti-Gone @ The Rat NYC
2 p.m.

This Antigone adaptation incorporates the audience in a very direct way—you get to vote on what happens. If you were left wanting more after the recent spate of versions of the Sophocles classic, this should be right up your alley. 

NYC Books Through Bars 30 Year Anniversary Party @ The Hop Shop
3 p.m.

NYC BtB began with a single bookshelf three decades ago. Today, it continues to do the righteous work of sending free books to incarcerated people across the country. Their anniversary party will feature a speech from founder Victoria Law, live music from the Rude Mechanical Orchestra, a raffle with prizes from publishers like Haymarket and Verso, and a lot more. If you’re going to come, bring a book donation—their wishlist is here. 

The Originals: Rich Medina, Stretch Armstrong, Tony Touch @ 314 Scholes St.
4 p.m.

Medina, Armstrong, and Touch have been performing together as The Originals for quite a while now, and they always deliver. Here, they’ll be putting on a joint six-hour set in an outdoor courtyard, which seems like the perfect way to wrap up the summer.
