Weekend Guide: Cara Delevingne at Baby’s All Right, ’Chamber of Reason’ Live, and WHO’S DANCING??
Plus, a Beat Street Records reunion, Moving House Forward, and more.
Happy Pride weekend! While the actual celebration is in Manhattan on Sunday, and thus ineligible for inclusion in our listings, there are a ton of Pride-adjacent events this weekend on the other side of the river. And to make sure that we’ve got all the letters of the acronym, we’ve also included an afterparty to Saturday’s Dyke March.
There is, as always, much else besides: a reunion party for a beloved and long-gone record store; all the garlic you can handle; help negotiating the gig economy; and more, all in the latest edition of the Weekend Guide.

Thursday, June 25
Floating Cloister — An Inaugural Gathering @ Freelancers Hub
1 p.m.
More and more workers are freelancing these days as the gig economy continues to swallow everything whole. Floating Cloister is a new effort to help the people in that world. This day-long gathering features four workshops about how to handle different aspects of freelancing. Following this event, it will turn into a monthly series, so get in on the ground floor by attending today.
Moving House Forward by DESCENDANTS with DJ Lag @ Public Record
6 p.m.
Public Records is kicking off their new Moving House Forward series with this conversation between Amapiano pioneer Vigro Deep and Meedy, the founder of the electronic music label DESCENDANTS. DJ Lag will be spinning before and after.
Celebrating 80 Years of Penguin Classics @ The Center for Fiction
7 p.m.
We all know Penguin Classics—you surely have at least a few on your bookshelf somewhere. At this event, recent contributors to the series Nicole Dennis-Benn, Roxane Gay, and Xochitl Gonzalez talk to the series’ publisher, Elda Rotor. There are two types of tickets, the more expensive of which gets you a tote bag (and related bragging rights).

Friday, June 26
The Public Theater Mobile Unit: AS YOU LIKE IT @ Central Lawn, Sunset Park
6:30 p.m.
Come see Shakespeare in the…um, I mean, a park. This production of the Bard’s comedy is directed by The Public’s inaugural directing fellow, Emma Rosa Went.
Cara Delevingne @ Baby’s All Right
7 p.m.
The actress/model/musician is in town for a few nights at Baby’s All Right, promoting her new single, “I Forgot”/“Out of my Head.” Her string of concerts this month in Europe, NYC, and LA are her first headlining shows ever, and given who commented on her IG post about them, your chances of spotting a celeb in the audience are extremely high.
John Cameron Mitchell & Friends @ Crown Hill Theatre
7 p.m.
Lucky for Brooklyn, this show was moved from The Town Hall in Manhattan to our borough. Special guests include Richard Butler of The Psychedelic Furs, the inimitable (and Brooklyn’s own) Tamar-Kali, J. Hoard, and more.
Roz Hernandez and Friends (Audiobook Launch Show) @ Littlefield
8 p.m.
Hernandez is getting ready to release her new audiobook, Peeing in an Empty Bottle: And Other Glamorous Shenanigans of an Almost-Famous Transgender Comedienne on the Road. It recounts the trans comic’s summer driving herself across the US to perform stand-up in gay bars. All tickets come with a special meet-and-greet.

Saturday, June 27
Tidal x Elsewhere x X&ND present: WHO’S DANCING? album release pride party @ Elsewhere
1 p.m.
This “funk dance party for women, queer people, and trans people” has something very special about it: no cameras! So dance your heart out without a single worry about ending up as somebody else’s viral video.
NYC Dyke March Sober After Party @ Soft Bar
8 p.m.
Want something to do after the big march that doesn’t involve getting wasted? Search no more. DJs, horoscope readings, toy giveaways, and even a T-shirt cropping station (bring your own shirt!) will all be part of the fun.
Chamber of Reason: Live @ Life World
8 p.m.
A live taping of “the world’s first Wisdom Podcast” would be a big deal all on its own. But this show features some very special guests: Edy Modica, Jill O’Connell, and If I Had Legs I’d Kick You star Ivy Wolk.
Sexpérience – An Immersive Cabaret (PRIDE EDITION) @ The Reading Room
9:30 p.m.
Choreographer and creative director Jason Williams is putting together one hell of a very special cabaret show, featuring stars from Broadway and beyond. In addition to Williams, the cast consists of Nick Burroughs, Julia Miller, Camryne Quinn, Kolton Krouse, Breana Marshall, April Watson, Sarah. Guarisco, and Sasha Anneka.

Sunday, June 28
Junk Drawer Market: Pride Edition! @ ErF Gallery
12 p.m.
Cop almost anything you can imagine at this market celebrating the queer community. Whether you’re in the market for a flash tattoo, or some upcycled clothing, or some jewelry, or even a keychain, this is the spot for you.
Brooklyn Garlic Takedown @ Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club Brooklyn
1 p.m.
The best home cooks in the area make a garlic dish of their choice—main, app, even a dessert, if anyone works up the nerve. Then you get to try them all and vote on the winners.
Beat Street Records Reunion Party @ Scales
4 p.m.
Beat Street was a famed downtown Brooklyn record store known for its hard-to-find rap vinyl. It shut its doors in late 2006, but the spirt of the place lives on this weekend at this reunion gathering. DJs include Goldfinger, DJ Kulcha, DJ June, and more.
ROCKY HORROR READ-THRU + SING ALONG: a mango girl fundraiser @ Rodeo
7 p.m.
Experience Rocky Horror the way God intended: by showing up, grabbing a script, and jumping into whatever role you get assigned. The event is raising funds for the upcoming play-slash-drag-show Mango Girl, coming next month to Box of Moonlight.
