Weekend Guide: DJ Scratch, a Brazilian Record Pop-Up, and More
The Weekend Guide is reloaded with all the late-night parties, daytime hangs, and must-see performances your Friday-to-Sunday can handle
St. Patrick’s Day is once again upon us—as is the birthday, appropriately, of someone who occasionally turned green, the late Brooklyn rap legend Sean Price (click here to see his hilarious animated take on the Grinch, “How Sean Price Stole Christmas”). So, to celebrate, we’ve got all types of events to keep your Irish eyes smiling in this edition of the Weekend Guide, whether you want to spend time with your darlin’ Eileen, find out how things are in old Glocca Morra, or figure out a good comeback when someone says that you’re not Irish.

Love Isn’t Blind: A Comedy/Dating Show Where the Men Can’t Speak @ Littlefield
8 p.m.
Here at the Weekend Guide, we take live dating game shows very seriously. Comedian Allison Goldberg put this “dating experiment” show together. The conceit is simple and exactly what is described in the title. Men compete in a dating game for the favor of one woman. But there’s a catch: none of them can say a word. Instead of verbally vetting them, the contestants gradually get whittled down Through tricks like calling their moms and unlocking their phones.
Sean Price Birthday Celebration @ Yummy’s Restaurant NYC
9 p.m.
The late rapper Sean Price was a true Brooklyn original: funny, gruff, innovative, and brilliant. Since his death in 2015, Price’s legacy has been kept alive by his wife Bernadette, who started releasing her own music lately. She’ll be shooting a video at this very party, and DJs Evil Dee and Ready Cee will be spinning all night.
Boogie Blind Presents: Easily featuring DJ Scratch @ Friends and Lovers
10 p.m.
The concept of Easily is that it’s “a club night connecting nostalgic and new eras of the sounds that shaped the Big Apple.” There are literally no better DJs in the world to bring that idea to life than Boogie Blind and DJ Scratch, who will surely make this a night to remember.
Level Up @ The Brooklyn Monarch
11 p.m.
Sonya Broner, who performs as Level Up, is a DJ who creates and performs super-energetic and fun dubstep. She’s on tour to support her superb new EP Sapphire Souls. Broner’s backstory is fascinating: a self-proclaimed “musical theater kid” who studied drama at the New School, she learned DJing from none other than the great Rob Swift, quickly moving from student to teaching assistant. But all of that is prelude to her current career of performing music that is tailor-made to be heard in a sweaty, packed club, which you should experience for yourself tonight.

Mental Athletic Issue #3 Release Party @ Homerun NYC
9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The new issue of the magazine Mental Athletic continues the project’s vision of “exalting movement and the aesthetic codes surrounding it.” What better way to exalt than to move yourself on down to the clothing store Homerun NYC to celebrate its publication? The event commences with plenty of movement, gathering folks for coffee and a brisk 5K at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. They’ll host a post-run brunch upon returning to Homerun HQ and then welcome people back to the shop for a party proper at 6 p.m.. The publication is also throwing a post-half-marathon BBQ on Sunday with food and music.
Tropicalia in Furs Records Pop Up @ Pilgrim Surf & Supply
12 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Joel Oliveira Stones, a world-renowned Brazilian vinyl dealer, is famous for putting on pop-up events to show off (and sell) the best Brazilian music he can find. This one is taking place both Saturday and Sunday at the New York flagship store of the clothing company Pilgrim Surf + Supply.
No Other Land @ BAM Rose Cinemas
1:50, 4:50, 7:10, and 9:30 p.m.
When a documentary wins an Oscar, it’s probably saying something you should hear. When it wins an Oscar and still can’t find a U.S. distributor, then it’s definitely saying something you should hear. No Other Land shows what life is like in Masafer Yatta, an area in the occupied West Bank. It demonstrates Israel’s systemic home demolitions and violence—endemic to the Occupied Territories. Now that the President can deport you for being critical of Israel, watching the film is more important than ever.
MonsterTrack 2025 Main Race Awards & Afterparty @ Our Wicked Lady
6 p.m.
MonsterTrack is a bicycle race that, organizers insist, “ain’t for the faint of heart.” They have a whole weekend’s worth of events, but the main race takes place on Saturday. Following the race, the riders and their friends head to Our Wicked Lady for a party that includes bands, DJs, wrestling, go-go dancers, tattoos, food, and, of course, awards “as soon as the podium is located.”
House @ Nitehawk Cinema Williamsburg
11:55 p.m.
If you were to look up “midnite movie” in the dictionary, chances are you’d see a poster for the incredibly far-out 1977 Japanese horror flick House. So, whether you’ve seen it before or are a first-timer, watching it literally at midnight is an unmissable opportunity.
Sunday March 16

Brooklyn St. Patrick’s 5K, 10K & Half Marathon @ Veterans Memorial Pier
9:30 a.m.
If you want to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day but also want to stay far away from the parades, this is a great bet. You have your choice of race lengths, and the course is the beautiful (if sometimes very windy) path alongside Belt Parkway—a path that goes right under the Verrazano.
Brooklyn St. Patrick’s Parade @ Bartell Pritchard Square
1 p.m.
Yes, that’s right: Manhattan’s parade isn’t the only game in town. For 50 years, Park Slope has hosted its own, which happens to be the largest in the borough. It serves not only as a celebration but as a “Brooklyn family reunion” and a way to honor locals dedicated to Irish culture and the public good.
Ana Egge @ Jalopy Theater
6 p.m.
When Lucinda Williams is on your side, you’re probably doing something right. Such is the situation with singer-songwriter Ana Egge (a Brooklynite!), who Williams once called “the folk Nina Simone.” Who needs any more recommendation than that?
Official Ma Dukes Presents: Dilla Day NYC & Hybrid Beat Battle @ The Woods
7 p.m.
The late and legendary producer J Dilla has inspired countless beatmakers in the hip-hop world—and a lot of them will be at this event, ready to compete in a beat battle. Among the judges will be one of Dilla’s closest friends, rapper Frank Nitt of Frank N Dank. The whole night is hosted by the producer’s mother, known to one and all as Ma Dukes. And I can’t mention Dilla without throwing in a quick plug for Dilla Time, Dan Charnas’ absolutely definitive biography of the musical master.
