BK Mag’s Northside Festival Friday Mixtape #3

By Jeff Klingman

Ah, the peak Spring breezes. Can we catch them in our hands, thrust them in our pockets and revisit them for weeks to come? No, friends, we cannot. But we can use this moment of peak seasonal comfort to fully relax and expand our minds with some of the chillest vibes and most out there sounds from the 2018 schedule of Brooklyn’s Northside Festival. That’s right, another lovely Friday brings in another of our weekly playlist series, leading up to the shows that will make up the 10th anniversary edition of Brooklyn’s Northside Festival. (Revisit vol. 1 & 2 here and here. Also a totally solid way to spend your time.)

Volume 3 covers some vast ground! It brings you rising indie star Sidney Gish’s sing-along self-deprecation alongside Protomartyr’s bruising post-punk. It swings from the open emotions of Brooklyn’s Half Waif to Tredici Bacci’s wry daydreaming old Italian films. It provides mind-expansion in differing flavors: the one-two punch of very different experimental artists L’Rain and Mind Over Mirrors (both playing the newly announced Tinnitus showcase, June 7th at Brooklyn Bazaar), and Jeff Parker’s calmly revolutionary reinvention of jazz. As always, there are ticket links below that connect you with your new faves with one quick click.

You — sit back and enjoy the tunes. We — keep sprinting towards Northside in June.
