BK Mag’s Northside Festival Friday Mixtape #1
For many, summer in New York City is synonymous with live music. As we come out of our winter hibernation, a new blanket of music will fall over the city. With so many concerts and festivals at our fingertips, it can be hard to choose which ones to attend. If you’ve been to Brooklyn’s Northside Festival at any time over the past nine years (yes! it’s now in its TENTH year!), then you know that it’s renowned for bringing some of the best new artists, as well as long-time favorites, to the stage.
With hundreds of bands and dozens of shows on offer from June 7th through 9th, Brooklyn’s Northside Festival is a little overwhelming by design. So to help you plan now, we’re launching a series of playlists highlighting Northside’s club show schedule. Every Friday afternoon, you’ll get a new mix of 15 tracks exploring the breadth and depth of the shows we’re most excited about.
Vol. 1 is a wide-ranging sampler, taking you from indie-icon Liz Phair’s first demos through milo’s cerebral hip-hop; from Irreversible Entanglements’ furious free-jazz to Men I Trust’s chill Canadian pop. There’s something new for everyone to discover, and some handy links live down at the bottom of this page that’ll help you secure a spot at your new faves’ Northside show.
Listen up, and let’s get ready for June!
