A Brooklyn Photographer Is Recreating Famous Horror Movie Stills and It’s Very Cool

This is a real horror still from Halloween, but you already knew that, didn’t you?
Maybe it’s just us, but we’re not really feeling Halloween yet this year. To be honest, we’re not even really feeling fall. It’s been so warm! And sunny. It’s like summer is just never going to end. (Ok, today is a bit cooler but still, this should be jacket weather! And it’s still only turtleneck weather! Lame.) Anyway! In general, we don’t care all that much about being seasonally appropriate, but we would like to feel like we’re not sociopaths for wanting to eat candy corn right now, you know? Are you like that too? Are you wondering how to get more deeply into the spookiest of spirits? Or maybe you just want to check out a Tumblr you haven’t seen before? Either way, have I got news for ~you~!
Tipped off to its existence by our intrepid art editor, I spent last night doing a deep dive into photographer Christopher Michael Beer’s Tumblr, Year of the Goat. Its basic premise is a simple enough photo-a-day format, but for most of 2015, Beer has been operating thematically on a month by month basis, with themes like “Leftovers,” “Doodles,” and “Public Nudity.” This month, Beer has recreated iconic shots from horror movies that include classics like Halloween and Day of the Dead as well as more recent scary films, like 28 Days Later.
All of which is to say, it’s Friday. Go lose yourself for a few hours on Tumblr. It’s the responsible thing to do.
