The Not-to-Miss Bands Playing 1.21 Gigawatts Festival This Weekend
It’s that time of the year again when the population of gentrified Brooklyn temporarily migrates to Chicago to unceremoniously celebrate beards and flowered headdresses at Pitchfork Festival. And while the Best New Music proprietors do a damn fine job at curating an event, your backpack was made in Brooklyn, your pickles are locally sourced… why not your music festivals too?
1.21 Gigawatts Fest (July 17-20) offers an alternative for homebodies, spreading more than 50 local bands across three venues huddled in Bushwick–Radio Bushwick, Hot 97.4 and a TBA house show–then slaps on the very convenient ticket price of $22 for all of it. Discoveries lurk at every turn as bands vie for the title of your new favorite. Here are a few you’ll want to catch before personally crowning the next batch of Best New Music.
