In case anyone had forgotten, a Whole Foods is indeed coming to Williamsburg. In fact, a whole lot of scary things are coming to that neighborhood (J. Crew, the Level Hotel, an athletic club, just to name a few), but the Whole Foods, scourge of Gowanus, is the biggest get.
The 242 Bedford Avenue grocery store will be gigantic, as expected, and share space with a handful of other businesses. Today, there are rumors flying about that a brand new coworking space from WeWork may be joining in on the fun.
The news comes via Commercial Observer: WeWork is a big name in the shared working space world, boasting 21 locations in the United States and L.A., 11 of them in Manhattan alone. Now, the company’s turned their eye toward Brooklyn, recently looking into leasing a 40,000 square foot space above the forthcoming Whole Foods.
This isn’t the worst idea, ever: WeWork is a startup-friendly company. Each of their offices provides internet, conference rooms, coffee, an Xbox lounge, moving screening theaters, recording studios and other fancy amenities. On top of that, they help new companies secure benefits for their employees and work with them on user interface and user experience. Go check out their “Benefits & Services” page. It’s like reading workplace erotica.
If the deal goes through, WeWork will share the 150,000 square foot building with Joe Fresh and New York Sports Club as well as Whole Food and be conveniently located three blocks south of the Bedford L.
