It’s been ten days since we brought you the news that a giant, spaceship-like hotel would be opening on Wythe Avenue and we’re still reeling from the news. But, alas, there’s nothing we can do about it now.

Knowing that some locals are categorically against the forthcoming Level Hotel, the folks behind it are working to connect with the community and have launched a contest to find a local artist who will to create a nice sculpture for the hotel’s lobby.

According to Curbed NY, starting on July 1, “emerging, mid-career or established” artists with a “substantial connection to Brooklyn” are invited to submit ideas for a sculpture that will be featured prominently in the 183-room luxury hotel. Finalists will be announced on September 1 and  the winner, who will have a $200,000 budget, will be chosen on December 1.

We’ll let you all know when the contest website goes live, but until then here’s a full rundown of the contest’s crazy specific rules.
