Planet Brooklyn Unveils Festival and Block Party Line-Ups
The first-of-its-kind festival is landing on August 23 and 24 on (and surrounding) stages at Barclays Center, Brooklyn Paramount, and BAM
Some of you may recall a very intentionally vague and ambiguous announcement we dropped about a not-so-little festival called Planet Brooklyn last month. Well, today we have the pleasure of filling in some of the gaps.
Planet Brooklyn has officially unveiled the rundown for its two days and three stages of programming. On Saturday, August 23, Brooklyn Paramount will host MUTHA, a micro-festival celebrating the fluidity of genre and gender, headlined by Afro-Brazilian star Ludmilla, with additional performances from Junglepussy, CupcakKe, bbymutha, Cakes Da Killa Mykki Blanco, and more. On Sunday, August 24, the party makes a beeline to Barclays Center, where Trinidadian soca hitmaker Machel Montano will gather legends, long-tenured and rising, of soca, dancehall, chutney, zess and afrobeats. Montano will be joined by host Majah Hype, and performances from Bunji Garlin, Skillibeng, Problem Child, Lady Lava, Ayetian, Ravi B, Skinny Fabulous and DJ Travis World.
But wait, there’s, somehow, still more. Both days will feature free shows at BAM (still to be announced), and the connective current through it all is a leviathan network of block parties hosted by Everyday People, TFA, Dos Flakos, St James Joy, Quench, and the Afro-Latina Festival, respectively, where attendees can catch all the vibes and set after free set of selections from Sango, DJ Moma, Tony Touch, DJ Guari, and so, so many more.
Tickets for the Barclays Center and Brooklyn Paramount portions of the festival go on sale Wednesday, June 25, via the Planet Brooklyn site. See the full line-up below and use the pre-sale code “BKMAG” to grab your stubs today.
