Berlin, banjos and a block party: 12 things to do this weekend
We can't tell if we're more intrigued by the two secret warehouse parties or ... a 'banjo toss'
This weekend the borough plays hosts to bands as diverse as Black Marble, CLAVVS, and The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die. You can also party at one of two secret warehouse locations, shop 40-plus vintage vendors at Artists & Fleas, and witness some extra special heckling at The Extra Special Comedy Show.

Friday, November 12
Brooklyn Folk Festival 2021
8 to 10:45 p.m.
Brooklyn Folk Festival returns for its 13th year at the beautiful and historic St. Ann’s Church. The three-day festival presented by Jalopy Theatre features 30-plus bands, vocal and instrumental workshops, a family-friendly square dance, jam sessions, film screenings, the famous “Banjo Toss” contest, and more! Check out the lineup for the whole weekend. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.
Golden Record NYC x Blind Colors
8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Golden Record NYC and Blind Colors are hosting a Midwest-influenced dance party at a mysterious new Brooklyn warehouse. This 12-hour marathon features Magda, DJ Minx, Titonton Duvante and Morgan. Location will be announced as the day draws near. Tickets are $45.
Black Marble at Music Hall of Williamsburg
Chris Stewart, the Brooklyn one-man-band who records as Black Marble, returns to the borough with concerts on Friday and Sunday night. Black Marble was born out of NYCs cold wave revival scene, and his latest full length album “Fast Idol” pays homage to ‘80s synth pop classics. Tickets are $22.
Nicole Moudaber Presents: In The Mood
Sought-after DJ and Producer Nicole Moudaber teams up with fashion designer Gelareh Designs and Volvox Labs NYC for an immersive night of techno and interactive art. Hosted by Avant Gardner and featuring the exceptional techno talents Chris Liebing, Luigi Madonna and Skin. Tickets start at $31.25 and are selling fast.
HQueue: A Night in BRLN
“A Night in BRLN” is an underground rave experience at an undisclosed Brooklyn warehouse. Featuring German DJ-producer Matthias Meyer from the Watergate label, along with El Mundo, Niki Sadeki, and Hoss. First release tickets are $56.25.
Saturday, November 13
Upstate Vintage Antique Show
10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Artists & Fleas are hosting a two-day flea market extravaganza in Williamsburg with more than 40 local merchants. Browse fashion, furniture, jewelry, accessories, vinyl, textiles, art, ceramics, curiosities, treasures, housewares, and more. Tickets are $15 and a limited amount will be available to purchase on site.
The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die
Five piece indie band The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die head to the Hall at Elsewhere. Their latest album was written and recorded during the pandemic, and according to Pitchfork, features the “most technically proficient and hard-hitting music of their career.” TWIABPAIANLATD is joined by Bent Knee and Gates. This event is 16+ and tickets are $26.60.
The Extra Special at Pine Box Rock Shop
At The Extra Special Comedy Show, comedians are at the mercy of the resident guest drinker-heckler: “A performer selected to drink for the duration of the show while cracking wise at whatever happens on stage.” This month’s lineup includes Tom Thakkar, Shalewa Sharpe, Myka Fox, and Casey James Salengo. Tickets are only $5.
High-Functioning Flesh at Saint Vitus Bar
Synthicide presents a late night show with electro-punk act High-Functioning Flesh. Featuring performances by electronic solo project Void Vision and Brooklyn trio Ces Cadáveres. Tickets start at $18.79.
Sunday, November 14
Williamsburg Block Party
12 to 8 p.m.
Brooklyn’s favorite restaurants, bars, bakeries and more are teaming up for an all day block party on Sunday. Participating venues include TailGate Outdoor Sports Bar, Brooklyn Brewery, Mable’s Smokehouse & Banquet Hall, Levain Bakery, Hatchets & Hops, 74 Wythe, The Williamsburg Hotel, and Brooklyn Billiards. Tickets are steep at $75 but come with drinks and treats at every location
Zach Zimmerman: The Reopening
Brooklyn-based writer and stand-up comedian Zach Zimmerman presents an hour of comedy at Union Hall. Zach’s first comedy album “Clean Comedy” debuted on the Billboard Top 10 and he has been named a TimeOut NY Comic to Watch. This event is 21+ and tickets are $15
CLAVVS Release with Marrón And Dov
Indie pop duo CLAVVS head to The Sultan Room to celebrate the release of their second album. Featuring performances from Brooklyn based songwriter Marrón and Tel Aviv-born queer pop multi-instrumentalist Dov. Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 day of.
