Bartender Spotlight: Ben Mann

By Brooklyn Magazine

Jameson takes us behind the scenes to present 12 of Brooklyn’s finest bartenders – the heroes who make it all happen. Learn about the hidden talents and signature drinks, tips beyond tipping, and even hear some of their best bar stories. This week’s bartender: Ben Mann.

What tip would you give a new bartender that you wish you had known?
Wear supportive shoes! Like really invest in them. It’s more important than one would realize.

What’s the first song on your bar’s playlist?
“Guitars, Cadillacs” by Dwight Yoakam.

What has bartending taught you about life outside the bar?
Never sweat the small stuff. Just go along for the ride.

What’s your signature Jameson cocktail?
Jameson Black Barrel, Campari, Amaro Meletti, and a couple dashes of Angostura bitters. Stirred and served up with a twist.

What’s your second passion outside of bartending?
Being at the beach. Any beach. From May – October. I will probably be at some sort of beach on most of my days off.

Have you ever been starstruck by a customer?
I had Trey Park, Matt Stone, Olivia Wilde, and Jason Sudeikis, in my little cocktail bar down in Crown Heights, all at the same time. It was a little overwhelming.

What is your most versatile cocktail ingredient?
Amaro. There are so many varieties and it can be used in so many different ways.
