See ’10 Things I Hate About You’ for Free in McCarren Park Tonight
We want you, we need you, oh baby, oh baby to come hang out with us in McCarren Park tonight for SummerScreen’s showing of everyone’s favorite 90s Shakespeare adaptation (right?), 10 Things I Hate About You! In addition to the heart meltingly bad attitude of Julia Stiles, the smoldering cockiness of Heath Ledger, and the squishy babe face of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, there will be food and drinks and cute dogs and more. More?? Yes, more!
Before the movie, catch local psych-rock band Cotillon, presented by TIDAL, as well as The Haiku Guys & Gals, who will be onsite writing haikus for you about your high school crushes (or lack thereof), and some of our bravest friends and media people will take the stage to give us a peek into their embarrassing, adorable, high school lives with dramatic readings—including some real honest-to-goodness diary entries from their youths. The reading lineup includes:
Emmie Lichtenberg (Emmie’s House)
Gabe Gonzalez (Mic)
Ben Kling (ClickHole, Tumblr)
Adam Polaski (Freedom for All Americans)
Geoffrey Lapid (Nobrow)
Jane Bruce (Brooklyn Magazine)
Lauren Maul (Dudes Being Dudes Being Dudes)
Harris Mayersohn (Late Show with Stephen Colbert)
You, the esteemed audience, will get to pick your favorite reading of the night and the winner will receive a brand new pregnancy belly!
And while we’re fine with abiding by Mr. Stratford’s rule about no ritual animal slaughters of any kind, it wouldn’t be SummerScreen without a few drinks. Plan to have a couple cold beers from Coney Island Brewing Co. and some excellent grub from our Seamless lobby’s offerings of favorite local restaurants.
SummerScreen is located at the entrance to McCarren Park on North 12th & Bedford. Gates open at 6pm, music at 7:15pm, and the film starts at sundown. So, uh, grab your Skechers and your teen angst and we’ll see you there.
