Angel Olsen Gets Dramatic In The “Shut Up Kiss Me” Video
Earlier this month, North Carolina-based indie rockstar Angel Olsen announced the release of her third album, My Woman, and shared a music video for the album’s first track, “Intern.” Today, she’s back again in the same silver wig for the second music video from the upcoming album, which is set for a September release.
While “Intern” was more intense and glamorous, with Olsen staring deep into the camera wearing a commanding headset and backstage in a hair and make-up room, the music video for “Shut Up Kiss Me” is comparatively playful and casual. It turns to typical suburban teen activities–perching on an old car, roller skating at a rink and through the streets–into impressive and pleasing visuals.
Angel’s face is the only one that appears in the visual and the song’s lyrics address–not unexpectedly–her desire to kiss the object of her affection, and reaffirm her promise that she’s “not going anywhere.” The video is carried by the intensity of her expression and an unrelenting belief in the importance of her emotions. Even as a few faceless friends drag her away from the camera on the rink, she continues on, only becoming more intense. This kind of dramatic behavior is a new look for Olsen, and it suits her well.
