Citymeals on Wheels Joins Forces with Brooklyn’s Top Brunch Spots
Slings and arrows have been consistently catapulted at brunch over the years—decrying the portmanteau of a meal as an excuse for eateries to phone it in with various themes on eggs benedict, and as an asylum for noxious crowds of hair of the dog-seeking celebrants. So if you tend to regard the late-morning feast as an obligatory one-off on Mother’s Day, consider an extended exception for “Brooklyn Brunches,” an initiative launched by Citymeals on Wheels to help feed the homebound elderly.
While the NYC nonprofit delivers more than two million meals annually to residents in all five boroughs, Brooklyn happens to be home to its highest number of recipients. Which is why, in an attempt to raise both awareness and funds, Citymeals has teamed up with local restaurants like Colonie, Llama Inn, and Hot House, who’ll donate a portion of sales from designated menu items during the entire month of May.
100% of proceeds from “Brooklyn Brunches” will go directly towards the preparation and distribution of meals for the city’s frail and aged. So make your peace with stuffed french toast and from-concentrate mimosas (for the next few weekends at least) because thanks to the following large-hearted establishments, there’s never been a more compelling incentive to fully embrace brunch.
