Assembly
Founded by Peter Oyler and Nora Mattingly in 2010, Assembly specializes in making household objects that feel like works of art, all the while still being things that you could—and desperately want to—live with. The delicate design of a wooden chair, resting on spindly legs with a lofty back, is strengthened by the addition of wide leather straps, adding a visible security that begs to be tested. But perhaps our favorite Assembly design is its aluminum mirror; comprising one highly polished sheet of aluminum, our reflection comes in and out of focus the closer and farther we stand from it—a captivating distortion indeed.
