Brooklyn Now A Finalist To Host 2016 Democratic National Convention
Do you live in New York? Do you love it when politicians roll through town in motorcades, thus snarling up the already impossibly snarled traffic of the city? How about speeches, you into those? If your answer was yes to all three then, boy, good news for you: New York City is one step closer to hosting the 2016 Democratic National Convention, a.k.a. Clinton Boogaloo Take 2. And should the DNC alight upon our fair city, De Blasio has indicated that the main event will be at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, the place, as Wyatt Cenac put it, “where Beyonce stores her winter clothes.”
On Monday, DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced that the committee had narrowed down the options to Philadelphia, New York City, or Columbus, Ohio, eliminating Phoenix, Arizona, and Birmingham, Alabama from the running. The winning city will likely be selected early next year, and the convention itself will happen in either late July or early August of 2016.
Rumor has it that the Clintons, both the expected-to-run former Secretary of State Hillary and former President Bill are in favor of having the circus in Brooklyn, but would also be just fine holding it in a swing state like Ohio. De Blasio is basically already celebrating. And the rest of us? Well, I might plan to be out of town that week.
