5 Questions With: Peter Matthew Bauer
“5 Questions With” is a series spotlighting some of Brooklyn’s most exciting and influential creatives. (You can explore our archive of picks here.)
You may recognize Peter Matthew Bauer from his time behind the guitar in The Walkmen, but he’s now stepped confidently out into the spotlight. His solo debut — the aptly-titled Liberation! — just came out by way of Mexican Summer, winning him both critical acclaim and a spot headlining the Music Hall of Williamsburg on October 2nd. Get the record, see him live, and (most importantly), see who and what he loves in our 5 Question survey, after the jump.
Record listened to most in life: Bone Machine by Tom Waits, but only maybe four or five songs of it.

Brooklyn-based band to look out for: Ham Leithauser.
Fave place to see a show: Is the Kingsland Tavern still around? That was a really fun place to play. I also liked the Masonic Temple and Warsaw.
Fave Brooklyn bar: There is an Irish pub called Ceol on Smith street. My wife threw me a surprise birthday there one year. It had this really great old time black and white Irish feel in the back and I was so damn surprised that it made me wonder if I was in some kind of Sixth Sense predicament where I was already dead and dreaming of my old friends. Briefly.
Go to drink: I drink a lot of cheap red wine and vodka.
