On the Importance of Food Sustainability
One of the inspirations for launching this year’s Future Food Expo at Taste Talks was Northside’s new series of Innovation Meetups—monthly discussions that engage Brooklyn’s entrepreneurial and technology community. And we’ve been incredibly fortunate to have had the continued support of Miracle-Gro AeroGarden; which, in addition to being the lead sponsor for the last two years of Taste Talks, also helped present our most recent conference on food sustainability.
And the company certainly knows a thing or two about helping people get up close and personal with their food. Featuring proprietary NASA-proven technology, Miracle-Gro AeroGardens are complete indoor gardening systems, with built-in full spectrum grow lights, patented nutrients and auto-feed and water apparatus. This makes them especially well-suited for urban environments, allowing city dwellers in even the most cramped, sunlight-free apartments to have the experience of growing, caring for, harvesting and enjoying all manner of herbs and produce, without the benefit of a square inch of dirt or a smidgen of outdoor space.
AeroGrow nutrients are pesticide and herbicide-free, and their seeds are obtained from large and small vendors from around the world. Many are heirloom seeds, organic sources are chosen when available, and GMO seeds are never used. In fact, Miracle-Gro AeroGarden participates in the “Safe Seed Initiative,” sponsored by the Council for Responsible Genetics, and has signed their “Safe Seed Pledge,” which means they’ll never knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants. Many of their seed suppliers have also signed this pledge.
We’re thrilled to have Miracle-Gro AeroGarden as partners once again during Taste Talks, and grateful that they’ve continued to help further the all-important conversation about food sustainability.
