M Trains Now Running Into The City On Weekends
Well, it’s finally happened: As of yesterday, M trains are now running into the city on weekends.
Plans to increase weekend service on the M train line have been in the works since July 2013, but only went into effect this weekend as a result of an $18 million plan to improve subway service.
Here’s the exact details of the change:
The M train will operate between Metropolitan Av in Queens and Delancey St/Essex St in Manhattan, providing additional service at Flushing Av, Lorimer St, Hewes St and Marcy Av with a new weekend transfer between the F and M available at Delancey St/Essex St.
Note: The late night to early morning service cutoff will remain in place and trains will only run as far as Myrtle Av/Broadway
So, yeah, we still won’t have M trains running all the way to 71st Avenue in Queens (this is our greatest wish), but at the very least, riders will no longer have to make that pesky transfer to the M at Myrtle Avenue/Broadway during the day. And that definitely counts for something.
