Some very sad news this morning: Dennis Zentek, owner of D.B.A. (which has locations in the East Village, Williamsburg, and New Orleans) has reportedly passed away. A message posted yesterday on the bar’s Facebook page read as follows:
It is with such a heavy heart that we make the announcement that our beautiful friend Dennis Zentek passed away last night. Dennis with his friend Ray was one of the co-founders, co-pioneers, co-visionaries of what has become a huge family. We will share more details later on, but for now we ask that you send love and say prayers and raise a glass to a dear friend who will be so very missed.
Longtime fans of the bar will recall that Ray Deter, with whom Zentek founded the bar in 1994, died in 2011 after being hit by a car while biking in lower Manhattan. There’s been no word yet on future plans for the bars, but regardless, it’s a huge loss for Zentek’s family, friends, and one of the community’s most reliably welcoming, friendly mainstays. RIP.
