Alexander Wang Is Coming To Brooklyn
Williamsburg Fashion Weekend and the forthcoming Fashion Week Brooklyn notwithstanding, this is still a major coup: Style.com reports that come February, Alexander Wang will be showing his Fall ’14 collection not at its usual home at Pier 94, but instead at the Brooklyn Navy Yards.
As the site points out, it’ll be the “first time in recent memory” that a major designer has shown in Brooklyn in this capacity. “We found this incredible space, and it corresponds very well to this season’s creative concept,” Wang told Women’s Wear Daily. It’s a pretty big development, to be sure, albeit one we’re a little surprised didn’t happen sooner. After all, these shows require nothing if not on-trend locations and cavernous spaces, i.e. warehouses. Last time we checked, that’s sort of a specialty around these parts. Regardless, kudos to Wang for shaking up the routine, and forcing his attendees to take cabs (or the ferry) across the river.
