On the heels of unsettling news of a recent uptick in homicides, it would seem there’s been a recent rash of robberies in Brooklyn, too, mostly at the hands of individual (but surprisingly persistent) suspects.
In the Williamsburg/Greenpoint area, two suspects (who can be seen in video here) have burglarized a dozen local businesses including Cookie Road, Oslo, and TBD bar, stealing cash and making getaways in a white minivan.
Elsewhere, a person the Daily News helpfully calls a “gun-toting young brute” (grainily pictured above) has been mugging a string of people between 57 and 78 years old at gunpoint around Canarsie, Flatlands, Mill Basin, and East Flatbush, mostly taking jewelry and other small personal belongings.
So, the usual advice applies here: keep an eye on your surroundings, maybe don’t walk around with your iPhone (or any prized jewelry) easily visible, and if you see anything, call 1-800-577-TIPS.
