Bands With Pans: Ava Luna

- Felicia Douglass, Julian Fader, Ethan Bassford, Carlos Hernandez
Bands With Pans is a series in which we shop for dinner ingredients with a Brooklyn-based band or artist on a $20 budget. Next we tag along for the cooking, chatting and—duh—the eating. This installment, we bug post-disco cuties Ava Luna.
Rattling bass shook the pavement outside a Bed-Stuy Key Food. I stood with a photographer named Gus and two-fifths of soul-pop outfit Ava Luna, Ethan Bassford (bass) and Felicia Douglass (vocals, synth). We waited for lead singer and chef du jour Carlos Hernandez to arrive with drummer Julian Fader from a day-full of tallboys at Hillstock. Sadly, following a motor accident, singer/guitarist Becca Kauffman was recovering in Boston and couldn’t join our evening of debunking myths about onions, breaking spoons and cranking Ween’s entire discography.
