Apparently Sandy Destroyed the One Nude Beach on Fire Island

Granted, the source for this is a very short, light-on-details article from the New York Post, but still, amid all the other waterfront destruction wrought by Hurricane Sandy, it seems that the only “clothing-optional” stretch of beach on Long Island (near the Fire Island Lighthouse) has been shut down until at least Memorial Day.
“I don’t think there are any other clothing-optional areas,” said a spokesperson for the Fire Island National Seashore. “I’m sure there are a lot of people who will be disappointed.”
Disappointed, definitely, though I’m less sure of the Post‘s super Post-y claim that a local naturist group, The Long Island Travasuns, have been fully “thrown into a panic” over the nude beach “crisis.” Either way, this is a total bummer for nude and never-nude beach-goers alike. Here’s hoping clean-up all goes as planned.
