At Home with Photographer Tod Seelie
What do you do?
I’m a photographer and collaborative artist.
Why did you move to Brooklyn?
I moved here over 15 years ago to attend college.
What’s your favorite thing about the space?
That it’s just big enough, has great light, a shared backyard and first-floor bicycle parking.
What’s your least favorite thing?
My neighbors across the street have a tradition of blasting music while they work on cars, from morning till night. After nine years living here it’s gotten a bit annoying being woken up that way.
What are the three (inanimate) things you’d save first in a fire?
My negatives, my hard drives, and my wallet.
What’s your favorite room in the space?
My studio, just before dawn.
If you suddenly received a windfall of cash, what changes would you make to your space?
Find a bigger one.
If you could move your house/block/neighborhood to another city, which one would it be, and why?
I don’t know if I would. But I guess if you’re going to change things, don’t go small. I’d move it somewhere in California because it’s so different out there.
