New Yorkers Really Like It Rough, When “It” Means Porn.
One of the greatest things about our city is that we live our lives so publicly. There’s no retreating into cars for us, we live our lives on the street. And so, New Yorkers display surprisingly little shame about a lot of private things. That’s why you see people on the subway clipping their nails (gross) and reading soft-core porn that pretends to be literature without shame (double-gross because 50 Shades is NOT a good book).
So, if this is what New Yorkers do in public, what do we like to do in private? Watch more BDSM porn than anyone else in the country! Yes! Go us!
Gothamist reports on the findings of venerable pornography website YouPorn, which released the results of what was probably a very scientific study on the topic of worldwide pornography viewing trends. Apparently, the entire world has caught the 50 Shades of Grey fever (which, ew, SEE A DOCTOR) because, on a global scale, viewings of porn related to BDSM and domination have increased dramatically.
But, let’s be honest, New Yorkers are always trend-setters and this is no exception. And, as it turns out, we watch a lot more of this kind of porn than anyone else. Gothamist quotes YouPorn as revealing that “According to statistics compiled by a prominent online adult entertainment website, it appears that New Yorkers—both men and women—are locking themselves in their own ‘Red Room of Pain’ to download BDSM-related videos. On a global scale, BDSM-related searches swelled 67% from April to June this year. In New York that number exploded by 89.7%.”
Nicely done, New York. Nicely done.
