Bushwick Apartments Evacuated For Cracks In Building Foundations

First that Brownstone in Carroll Gardens, then the entirety of Bay Ridge, and now this: two residential buildings in Bushwick have been evacuated due to new cracks in their foundations.
NBC reports that neighboring construction is the source of the problem at 418 and 420 Melrose, though an official cause for the problem has not been given.
“In the past month, there has been shaking. Like serious vibrations,” complained one displaced resident. Others reported seeing cracks in their walls and other damage as early as Tuesday, according to NY1.
“I woke up with my building shaking,” another resident reported. “Things were falling off the shelves. The water in the toilet was moving. It felt like an earthquake.”
For the time being, construction has halted and residents of the building at 418 have been allowed back into their homes, while the other building remains under a “mandatory vacate.” The Department of Buildings has since issued five violations to the construction company in question and the Red Cross is set to provide emergency housing tonight for 10 of the displaced residents.
