The Spot: Williamsburg’s Eco Closet

The Spot: Eco Closet
The Lowdown: Since opening in May, this Grand Street boutique makes green-ifying your closet a no-brainer. “Everything is either sustainable, recycled, or upcycled. Almost everything is made in the USA, and there are a few things that are fair trade,” says owner Lisa Joseph. That means there’s no need to pore over labels or read the fine print, since each and every piece has been properly vetted. But just because the store carries the occasional tie-dye top doesn’t mean that it’s your crazy hippie uncle’s type of place; rather, Eco Closet is stocked to the brim with the type of modern, sophisticated pieces—said tie-dye top from EcoSkin is made of silk, natch—you’re used to seeing at high-end boutiques around the borough. As Joseph points out, “I wanted to share with everyone that eco-friendly doesn’t mean beige or boring.”
The Vibe: Clean, airy, fuss-free—just like the experience of buying guilt-free clothes.
The Details: The California native and corporate refugee is looking to add homewares and men’s items to her women’s and accessories roster come November.
The Buy: If Smart Glass Jewelry’s rings looks familiar, it’s probably because you’ve been spending too much time at the bar—each and every one is made from recycled sake, wine, and beer bottles.
The Location: 230 Grand Street, Williamsburg, 718-360-4587
