Petition: Bring the Fireworks Back to Brooklyn!

For four years in a row, Macy’s has hosted its fireworks spectacular on the Hudson River instead of the East River, thus robbing certain Brooklynites (and Queens residents!) of a view of the show they’d enjoyed for the previous 33 years and giving it to the people of New Jersey. Now a few politicians are saying enough is enough! State Senator Daniel Squadron and Councilmember Steve Levin held a rally about the matter in April, and now Squadron, Public Advocate Bill DeBlasio and Borough President Marty Markowitz have begun an on-line petition urging the department store to “Bring the fireworks back to the East River so everyone can enjoy the show,” the Brooklyn Heights Blog reports. You can sign it here.
While we’re at it, let’s start a petition to rename the East River! After all, it’s not to my east!
