Of course, the world remembers her for her poetry, but we remember the 37-year Fort Greene resident almost as well for her Prospect Park advocacy: she was a part of the group of activists who saved the Boathouse from demolition, and her poem about the nearby Camperdown Elm helped raise the funds to save it. She wrote the foreword to Clay Lancaster’s terrific Prospect Park Handbook, and was the first president of the Greensward Foundation, a parks advocacy group.
