Ghost Dog: The Wild Hound of Prospect Park
I finally saw the dog. I visited him at his new, temporary home. He was sweet, and gentle. He was affectionate, and I was surprised by his willingness to be touched. Perhaps, after his four-year sabbatical, he missed it.
But Ghost Dog’s life in the park was not one of toil and hardship, and it is perhaps this that surprised me most: that his feral life was so… rich. I wonder if he’ll miss it, or if maybe, he’s had enough adventure, and he’s ready to retire.
Ghost Dog is currently living at Sean Casey Animal Rescue’s shelter in Sunset Park. The organization is accepting donations to help off-set the cost of Ghost Dog’s medical bills. For more information on the Animal Rescue group, see www.nyanimalrescue.org.
