Despite the tragic violence during J’ouvert this year, the Labor Day West Indian Parade itself went off without a hitch. With nearly three million attendees, it is one of New York’s largest parades. When it first began in the 1920’s, it took place in Harlem and, subsequently, in the 1960s, moved to Crown Heights.
