Which Brooklyn Neighborhoods Produce the Most and Least Trash?

No, no, not in a figurative way, like, "man those Williamsburg boys are trashy," but in terms of actual pounds of refuse picked up by the department of sanitation. Gothamist compiled the DSNY data, which shows that in NYC Staten Islanders by far produce the most waste: "anywhere from 85-100 pounds of waste per person per month—more than twice as much garbage as their East Village counterparts," the website reports. Even Staten Islanders, though, produce less garbage than the average American, who discards 130 pounds of trash every month. That means as a country we produce something like 40,820,000,000 pounds of garbage a month? 489,840,000,000 pounds a year? This is making me dizzy.... [photo]
