Hip-hop fans everywhere got a tingle down their spine this morning, as Kendrick Lamar—the unquestioned top man on the totem pole in the rap game right now—sent an ominous Instagram post out to his massive, 4M+ following, a graphic that read only ‘IV.’

Lamar also cleared his account of all previous posts, allowing this one to stand alone. The 4, many speculate, would be in reference to a coming fourth studio record, following Section.80, good kid, m.A.A.d city, and To Pimp A Butterfly, his 2015 magnum opus. He also released untitled. unmastered. last year, a collection of nameless tracks recorded over the past few years.
I was just in Las Vegas this past weekend, so I’m very much still in the betting mood, and if you asked me, I would feel comfortable putting some money on the table in anticipation of King Kendrick dropping a new full-length project not super long from now—I would anticipate a new single as well, and maybe that the album would drop this summer. I’ve got nothing to back this up beyond my intuition, which, fine, cost me a good bit of money recently. But this one I really do feel good about.
Here’s the video for “King Kunta” in the meantime.
