Mothers Sign With Grand Jury, Share “Too Small For Eyes”
It’s easy to compare Kristine Leschper’s singing style to Angel Olsen’s voice. But what’s more compelling is that we were gifted with two such riveting voices during the same era. Leschper founded Mothers as a solitary songwriting project, but now has expanded it out into a full-fledged band. The quartet hail from Athens, Georgia and make songs that sound too tiny for earth, too big for the universe. “Too Small For Eyes” is actually the third song off their forthcoming, matter-of-fact titled record When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired — “No Crying In Baseball” and “It Hurts Until It Doesn’t” came before — but this is the one that comes with some news. The band have signed with New York-based heartthrob indie label Grand Jury. “Too Small For Eyes” is a colossal swell of silvery emotion, too big for most hearts to hold. “I hate my body / I love your taste,” Leschper sings, self-loathing and adoration caught together in her warbled, child-like soprano. I’m caught, too. Listen below.
