Lil Durk and Dej Loaf are two outliers in the latest wave of the midwest’s incredible crop of hip-hop talent, and they’ve been stoking rumors about a potential romance for a while now. Those fires get a big dose of kerosene on their latest duet, “My Beyonce” that Billboard premiered today. Frankly, I think it’s wonderful to watch the way that “Beyonce” has become a stand-in, all-purpose term for beautiful, perfect woman, and “shorty my Beyonce” has ideal meme-ability. These two are clever though, pushing it one step farther by making “Durk and Dej” just as catchy a hook as their homage to Bey. Whether they’re an IRL couple or not, they both sell the possibility of it well. Wondering what’s happening in real life and what’s done for the sake of the music is half the fun, right? “My Beyonce” was produced by French-born, Chicago-based C-Sick and will be on Durk’s new mixtape 300 Days, 300 Nights out in December. 300 Days, 300 Nights is out 12/15.
