Spilled Ink: Brooklyn Bartenders Talk About Their Tattoos

Do you have a favorite tattoo?
Well, not a lot of people know what this one means [points to shoulder] or why I got it. I got a bird on a branch because I wanted something to symbolize that everything has its place. [A bird on a branch] is something you pass every day, and you don’t even think about, but it has it’s place. Sometimes we need to slow down and take a second to realize that, you know?
That’s such a cool reminder. Was that your first tattoo?
No, I got it about five years ago. This one [rotates arm around to reveal elephant on inner bicep] was my first. I got this one about eight years ago. It’s to signify that memories are all we have left — the memories of experiences and people.
