Sound The Goddamn Bells: Crinkle Fries Are Coming Back To Shake Shack
Last summer, Shake Shack made the decision to trade their deliciously artificial, pre-packaged, frozen crinkle fries for lame, soggy, fresh cut ones. It was, is, and will be, the worst thing to ever happen, as fresh cut fries are available in literally every other restaurant in New York City, whereas frozen crinkly ones can be found exclusively at the sorts of huge grocery stores that only exist in places where people own cars. But no longer. Danny Meyer has heroically reversed this very, very stupid decision, and now, crinkle fries are making their glorious return.
In a letter posted today on their website (h/t Eater NY), Shake Shack acknowledged how much of a bummer the fresh cut fries were:
Now with the benefit of hindsight, it’s clear that we underestimated the love for our classic crinkle cut fry… We didn’t fully appreciate the simple, tactile pleasure and the emotional attachment our fans have to the crispiness, the ridges and pure joy that these fries bring to guests of all ages. Even fans that genuinely appreciated what we were trying to do continued to remind us that they just wanted the crinkle cuts back. It’s humbling to know that so many people care so deeply about our menu.
Afterwards, they announced that crinkle fries will be returning to Shake Shack come November, albeit this time, they’ll have no artificial ingredients. For the record, we’d eat ’em with icky preservatives any day.
