Another Fancy Restaurant Just Opened Under the Williamsburg Bridge
Someone tell Peter Luger there’s a (sort-of) new chef in town. After the shuttering of Dressler last summer, head chef Polo Dobkin is back for Round Two of the Delicious Battle of the Michelin-Starred Chefs: Williamsburg Bridge Edition—on his old turf, no less.
Eater reports that Meadowsweet opened late last week in the former Dressler space at 149 Broadway, serving up a menu that’s both Mediterranean-inspired (Spanish octopus, plancha marina) and rustic American (Colorado lamb loin & rib, Chatham cod). For dessert, chef Jared Rubin, formerly of Bouchon Bakery, Dover and Batteresby, offers a basque cake with rhubarb sorbet and milk chocolate semifreddo with horchata, rice crispies and cajeta, according to a restaurant spokesperson.
The space is a departure from the much darker Dressler space—they’ve whitewashed the brick walls and added floral wallpaper as well as an herb garden, which will provide ingredients for seasonal cocktails, headed by Dobkin’s wife and partner Stephanie Lempert.
Brooklyn Magazine Food Editor Sarah Zorn will give you a closer look at Meadowsweet later in the week—until then, let us know how the octopus is.
