2013: A Year in Vaginas (Maybe NSFW)
Wendy Davis, Abortion Rights, and the Battleground of a Woman’s Body: So 2013 was not just an important year for vaginas because of Gwyneth Paltrow’s seventies vibe, it was also an important year politically, as women’s reproductive rights were threatened by lawmakers across the nation. In Texas, Wendy Davis made a stand (literally, this Texas State senator who is now running for governor stood for hours on end as she filibustered for Texas women’s rights) when Republicans tried to enact legislation that would effectively shut down the majority of women’s healthcare facilities in the state. While Davis was temporarily victorious (and eternally inspiring) the legislation was eventually passed, and so the fight to preserve and regain women’s right to affordable and comprehensive reproductive healthcare continues.
