How to Re-Create a Summer Camp Experience in NYC

Swim in a Lake
With the lakes and ponds in city parks off-limits to swimming (health reasons?), how are you to re-create that squeamish feeling central to any camp experience of submerging yourself in a body of water so dirty you can’t see your hand an inch below its surface? You’re going to head to the Bronx. There you’ll find something even better—swimming pool floating atop a barge in the middle of the East River, giving a similar sensation of wading in a wide-open aquatic landform. But thanks to chlorine, you’ll be able to skip the “wait, guys, stop, I just stepped on something weird” part that was never that fun, if we’re just being honest with ourselves.
Check here for more info on the free(!) pool at Barretto Point Park, Bronx.
