Hot Enough for Ya? Ugh. Here Are Five Easy Ways to Beat the Heat
Bike to Work
Wait. What? Is that what you’re saying to yourself right now? How can biking—exercise—actually make me cooler? I know, I know. It seems so counter-intuitive. But hear me out! Will biking in this kind of heat make you sweat a little bit? Yeah, I’m sure it will. But you know what else makes you sweat? Standing on a more-than-one-hundred-degree-subway platform, baking for minute after minute waiting for your train. And then once you get on that train? Even when it’s air conditioned, there are so many people on it that it voids the benefits of the AC. Plus, it is a proven (anecdotal) fact that subways move much, much slower during the heat because…why exactly? I don’t know but I’m pretty sure the New York City public transportation system is nothing more than one big controlled experiment run by the MTA à la the infamous Milgram experiment. And, you know, even if you don’t have a bike, haven’t you just been dying to try out a Citibike? I thought so. Try biking as an alternative, and see how much better you feel.
