A Traveler’s Guide to Brooklyn’s Best Music Venues
Best Chance at a “Quintessential Brooklyn Music Scene” Experience: Glasslands
Where it is: 289 Kent Ave, Williamsburg
Who to see: Bear in Heaven (7/25), MINKS (8/9), Daughn Gibson (8/17), Majical Cloudz (9/13), Terry Malts (9/19)
While Glasslands tends to keep tickets in the $10-$12 range for bands who could very well be playing MHOW the next time they’re in the city, the venue’s real draw is that on any given night, it offers the best chance at encapsulating this so-called “Brooklyn Music Scene” people are always talking about. Situated in a pocket of DIY venues on an otherwise dark concrete strip, its art-installed decor straddles the line between charming and dirty. The bartenders are nice without being so nice they’re mistaken for Midwesterners. Everyone looks like they either go to NYU or work at VICE. And the expert booking allows for a constant rotation of solid local talent and on-the-verge Big Things. Welcome to Brooklyn.
