The Head of the MTA Has a Twitter and It’s Spectacular
Anyway, MTA chairman Joseph Lhota also has a twitter and, although this twitter was profiled in the New York Times last month, it escaped my notice until this weekend, and now I’m kind of officially obsessed. Why the obsession? I guess it’s because Lhota’s twitter is so clearly his own voice and it’s rare to get an unfiltered look into the thoughts of public officials who operates at such an elite level. I mean, do they laugh at the same things that us ordinary MTA-using peons do? Do they drunk tweet just like the rest of us? Do they habitually retweet the same novelty account over and over again because they just think it’s so. damn. funny?
It turns out, they do! Or at least Lhota does on this, his personal account. You know it’s his personal account because he says it right there in his bio, which reads in full, “Native New Yorker, 9-11 survivor, life-long Yankees fan, Hoya. This is a personal Twitter account; not a business-related account.” So even though people might be tempted to pester Lhota about slow-running F trains or dirty C trains, he won’t answer you. It doesn’t really matter though because there are PLENTY of other reasons to follow him. Check out the following tweets, and get a peek into the method and the madness of the head of the MTA.
