Vintage Navy Yard, Vintage Hipsters
When a new museum, the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center, opened on Flushing Avenue in November, it revived our long-dormant obsession with naval history. And our appetite for knowledge of the yard’s former shipbuilding activities and military operations only grew when we happened upon the institution’s expansive photo archive, which includes everything from images of veterans outfitted with then-state-of-the-art prostheses to under-construction battleships standing tall as skyscrapers in the Wallabout Bay dry docks. Most importantly, though, is this guy’s resemblance to a Bedford Avenue hipster.
