The Boys of Summer
The Cyclones roster won’t be revealed until after the June Major League Draft (after we’ve gone to print) but there’s still cause for excitement. “The biggest attraction on Surf Avenue this season may be Cyclones pitching coach Frank Viola,” says Brooklyn Eagle sports editor John Torenli. Viola’s “a New York native who won the 1987 World Series MVP and 1988 American League Cy Young Award before pitching for the Mets from 1988-91.” A former Met has been the team’s key to success before: Wally Backman, since promoted to Binghamton, led the Cyclones to the New York-Penn League Championship Series last season.
