After Just 18 Months at a Bushwick Gas Station, Blue Hour is Closing (For Now)
The perpetually viral late-night take-out counter at a BP in Bushwick is ending its first chapter by announcing a new one
The sun is, sadly, but supposedly temporarily, setting on Blue Hour—the take-out counter serving some fantastic late-night fare out of a gas station in Bushwick—at least, at its current home in a BP on Myrtle Avenue. The closure was announced late last week via Instagram, marking September 30th as “The Final Sunset.”
“We want to start by saying how much we love and appreciate you all for supporting us over the last year and a half,” the Blue Hour account wrote. “We took on a [short-term] lease in this space as an opportunity and an experiment to bring forth our vision of a high quality, fast casual eatery with a menu made up of our favorite foods to life. We are proud to say we accomplished that and more importantly, we were able to meet and share it with incredible people like you. It’s now time to turn our focus towards what comes next,” it added, claiming they were on the hunt for a new location for the beloved bodega-inspired menu.
That last part hasn’t been expanded on just yet, but Blue Hour owners Ali Zaman and Mohamed Ghiasi have been teasing their next chapter(s) for months now. “We have two exciting new projects on the way and we can’t wait to share them with you soon. The good news is that Blue Hour isn’t gone forever, we’re already searching for a new home, and when the hour is right, we’ll be back.” The duo, who also run Little Flower Cafe in Astoria, has been documenting the construction of their still unnamed new venture on Instagram since earlier this year. And, with Blue Hour now officially turning the page, a proper reveal for what’s ahead from Zaman and Ghiasi is virtually imminent.
For now, you can send them off with one last Afghani-tinged chopped cheese or fried chicken sandwich on Tuesday, September 30th (or at any time until then), and hold tight for word on what’s on the horizon.
