Iconic NYC Club Studio 54 is Reopening for Just One Night
The storied disco nightclub is getting resurrected as part of a New York Fashion Week warm-up
45 years since ending its glamorous, damn-near mythical, original run, Studio 54 is coming back for one night only this week. And there’s likely no amount of booger sugar or crisp twenties that will get you through the velvet ropes.
The resurrection of the NYC icon comes courtesy of Valentino Beauty, which is launching a new product line on its hallowed, presumably repaired, dance floor—previously spellbound by pioneering DJs, like Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries, and Jellybean Benitez, and scuffed by the shuffling heels of Andy Warhol, Grace Jones, Timothy Leary, Diana Ross, Debbie Harry, Liz Taylor, and almost any high profile public figure making good money during the dog days of disco.
The launch is for Valentino’s Rendez-Vous Ivory Collection, a set of fragrances and lipstick borrowing the white and gold palette of the storied club and late-night outpost for the stars of music, television, film, art, and fashion. Though there are drastically fewer former patrons of the club living now than, say, two decades ago, when it was finishing its final push as a wildly exclusive nightlife destination, Valentino promises “a few of the club’s original patrons” have been invited to their New York Fashion Week warm-up. And you can bet there’s a line of DJs getting their crates and USBs ready should they get the call to hold court at the old haunt.
It’s all going down on Wednesday, September 10 at 254 West 54th Street in Manhattan. See the nostalgic promo clips for the event below.
