Lundy’s, a Brooklyn Seafood Legend, Is Reopening
Seventeen years after it closed, the one-time Sheepshead Bay staple is coming back.
Lundy’s, the old-school seafood restaurant once located in Sheepshead Bay and known for serving up to 2,600 guests at any given time, is reopening in Brooklyn after shutting down nearly 20 years ago, according to Gothamist.
Sandra Snyder, the wife of Red Hook Winery’s Mark Snyder, is behind the reopening. Snyder said the restaurant will now reside in Red Hook, but that the concept behind it and the menu it’s remembered for will remain the same.
Snyder told Gothamist she and her husband dined at Lundy’s when they first started dating in 2002.
“Since then we’ve just discussed the abandonment of hospitality and old-school dining in Brooklyn and places like Lundy’s, where you could count on an amazing experience and you dreamt about the biscuits,” she told Gothamist.
Lundy’s, also known as Lundy Brothers Restaurant, opened in the 1920s and was known for its biscuits and fresh seafood.
According to Village Voice, “favorite dishes included raw clams on the half shell, small buttered biscuits, tomato salads, corn on the cob, shore dinner, Manhattan clam chowder, and huckleberry pie served with Breyers ice cream.”
The restaurant first closed in 1974, was reopened in the late 1990s, and then closed again in 2007.
Snyder said Frank Cretella, a businessman who owned the name rights, “handed things over” to her in 2023. The restaurant is set to open later this month and will feature a bar, dining room, and at some point a patio. Guests will also be able to enjoy live music.
